Boards & Commissions
The City of Marion has several internal and cross governmental board appointments that local residents may join. Boards are a great way to stay active and directly impact the present and future of our community. Apart from the city boards found elsewhere on this website, here are a few joint governmental boards with appointments made by the City:
- City/County Park Board – The City appoints 3 members of the 6 member board. They have the responsibility to maintain the City/County Park.
- City/County Airport Commission – The City appoints 3 members of the 6 member board. They have the responsibility to maintain the City/County Airport.
- Crittenden County 911 Commission – The City appoints 3 members of the 7 member board. A 4th member is appointed in rotation with the County. The Board is responsible to maintain 911 services for greater Crittenden County.
- Crittenden County Board of Equalization – The City appoints 1 member of the 3 member board. They have the responsibility of reviewing and hearing complaints associated with local tax bodies.
- Pennyrile Area Development District – The City appoints 1 member of the PADD Board of Directors. Their website made be viewed at peadd.org.
- Marion Recreation, Tourist and Convention Commission – The City appoints all 7 of the commission members, however, several are appointed from among specific community organizations. The Commission’s website site may be found at marionkentucky.org.
The Marion Board of Adjustment was created to review special elements of the Planning Commission. Subjects for the Board include conditional uses, variances, and spot zoning.

The Planning & Development Commission consist of 6 members. The Commission is authorized to govern all aspects of Chapter 150: Buildings of the Marion City Code of Ordinances.

The Marion Code Enforcement Board is responsible for the enforcement of all ordinances which are designed to impose civil fines. The Board is not, however, responsible for any enforcement of ordinances within the Kentucky Penal Code or any moving motor vehicle offense. Final Orders Notification
House Bill 422, an act relating to local code enforcement, was adopted by the 2016 Kentucky General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Matt Bevin.
The bill consolidates code enforcement provisions, including nuisance codes. The bill also extends lien priority provisions to all code enforcement violations code. Local governments have a right to a lien for fines, fees, and charges for violations of local code enforcement ordinances, which lien may be superior to those of prior lienholders. Local governments must implement a notification system to lienholders in order to obtain lien priority over previously filed liens. The lienholder has the right to abate the violation or pay all fines, fees, and charges for violations within 45 days of notice.
By signing up for this free electronic notification system, you will receive the Final Orders issued by the City of Marion Code Enforcement Board. The electronic notifications will be sent out at least no less than once per week.
A Final Order means any order:
- Issued by the Code Enforcement and Nuisance Board
- Issued by a City Code Official because a violator neither paid nor contested the citation within seven (7) days
- Issued by a City Code Official because a violator failed to appear at a hearing the violator requested to contest the citation
An alleged violator may appeal a final order issued by the Code Enforcement Board directly to District Court. An appeal from a final order of a Code Enforcement Board following a hearing may be made to the Crittenden County District Court within thirty (30) days of the date the order is issued.
If no appeal from a final order following a hearing is filed within the time period set above, the order shall be deemed final for all purposes.
The Marion Revolving Loan Fund Board is comprised of 7 members. The main goal of the Board is to retain and create jobs. This is accomplished by providing incentive financing or gap financing for existing or potential businesses creating gainful employment for residents. The fund is designed to be used in conjunction with other financing and equity to supply a secondary or supplementary role. The Board is responsible for all aspects of maintaining and managing the fund.
